The Functional Movement Screen – Identify & Correct Movement Limitations

Fitness Workout
Arguably the first and most important thing one should do as athlete or coach before beginning or introducing someone to an exercise or training regimen is the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). The FMS is used to identify limitations or imbalances in seven fundamental movement patterns that are key to functional movement quality in individuals with no current pain complaint or known injury. The results of the FMS can then be used to develop an exercise prescription to resolve limitations discovered.

In this episode of Uncharted Elements, Leonard Taylor performs the FMS on our host, Pawel Wencel, taking him through the 7 movements:

Deep Squat
Hurdle Step
In-line Lunge
Shoulder Mobility
Active Straight Leg Raise
Trunk Stability Push-Up
Rotary Stability
