Functional Workout for Runners – Ep 01 – Weightlifting for Running

I am a big believer in being well rounded and even though my major focus is on ultrarunning right now I still feel it is important to get at least one crosstraining and weightlifting session in per week. Functional training / CrossFit is an outstanding way to enhance your endurance training by building strength, flexibility, and speed.

Here are some of the reasons I continue to strength training while training for an ultra distance races:
1. Learn to run on tired legs, mimicking the end of a race
2. Another method of increasing mental toughness
3. Improves basic movement patterns
4. Creates more well-rounded strength for better running posture and form
5. Endurance building through high-intensity moves
6. Workouts are short so you can fit them into a busy day
