The Monkey Movement – Five Animals Frolic Qigong

The Monkey sequence is part of the Qigong Five Animals Frolic routine.

The Five Animals Frolic can be regarded as one of the earliest forms of Qigong. The 5 animals are: tiger, deer, bear, crane and monkey.

Ancient healers used to observe the nature and imitate the characteristics and physical movements of each animal to build strength, improve flexibility and balance.

Monkeys are clever, agile and flexible.

Benefits:
The movements of a monkey exercise the muscles of the neck and shoulders.
Toes raises strengthens the muscles of the legs and ankles, massage the soles of the feet.
Stretching and reaching help to open and lengthen the entire body and activate all major muscle groups.

You can practice the Monkey movement individually to tackle a particular problem 3-5 minutes per day or practice together as a sequence with the rest of the movements.
